Baeksu Apartment Movie Review – Don’t Just Believe What You See
“Her name is Geoul, and she reflects the truth.”
The protagonist is jobless. She doesn’t have a job or work.
However, she’s a self-proclaimed ‘busybody’ who interferes in even the smallest neighborhood issues.
Her name is ‘Geoul’ (Mirror).
It’s as if she reflects even the smallest mistakes.
Then,
she ends up moving into a place called ‘Baeksu Apartment’.
She receives a 200 million won negative credit card
from her lawyer brother for childcare expenses,
and moves into the apartment as a tenant…
On the first night,
a mysterious, massive noise is heard.
‘Thump… Thump…. Thump….’
“What’s that noise…? I can’t sleep.”
And so begins this calm yet witty film,
which is
<Baeksu Apartment>.
My initial feeling while watching the movie was that
Du-on, the lawyer brother, was too cold towards his sister.
“Why…? Is it okay to disregard someone like that just because they don’t have a job?”
The protagonist is jobless, and her younger brother is a lawyer.
The character Du-on, who seemed to discriminate against his sister based on ‘social status,’
was quite irritating.
Of course, I wasn’t angry at actor Lee Ji-hoon.
I just didn’t like the character.
Du-on interfered in everything his sister did,
or more precisely, it was closer to disregard or discrimination than nagging.
However, the protagonist ‘Geoul’ is a more proactive person than anyone.
She’s a truly wonderful person who helps others.
But…
that wasn’t it. (Surprise)
To be precise,
it wasn’t because she was ‘jobless’ that she was disregarded.
A heartbreaking story was hidden in his heart.
Du-on had a precious daughter,
who passed away in a kindergarten bus accident.
It’s unclear if it was because of his sister Geoul, but
his sister, who constantly talked as if the child were still alive
and brought up painful memories…
was a source of immense distress for him.
So I thought,
“What you see isn’t everything.”
Relationships between people
can never be judged solely by outward appearances.
Someone might seem like an aggressor,
but they could actually be a victim harboring deep wounds.
And I realized something else.
The protagonist Geoul might be a socially vulnerable ‘jobless person,’ but
she was stronger than anyone.
Indeed, it’s wrong to judge people solely by their profession or appearance.
‘Weki Meki’ 😀
I’ve been practicing media detox lately,
and after watching this movie,
my central nervous system felt stimulated, and I was a bit tired,
but it actually helped me escape loneliness,
which made me feel better,
and gave me energy for the day.
