Meeting an AI Go Robot – Seoul AI Festival

I went to the Seoul AI Festival.
In a place overflowing with all kinds of technology,
the first thing that truly caught my eye was this AI Go robot.
It was so cute.
Watching it use those blunt, round hands to precisely pick out and lift a single Go stone
genuinely amazed me.
It looked like it had some kind of built-in magnetic system.
As if there were AI sensors on its fingertips,
it would neatly select exactly one stone from many—so fascinating.
But in that moment,
a child was playing gomoku with the robot.
If it’s an AI Go robot, it must be capable of playing proper Go
with a super-intelligent algorithm…
but the child brought out their own rules
and started a simple, adorable gomoku game instead.
That scene really struck me—just like that.
“Maybe this is what makes humans unique.”
Humans insist on their own way and rhythm,
their own philosophy and values.
No matter how much machines evolve,
there’s something they simply can’t replicate.
Watching that child, I paused to think for a moment.
Could they be… a genius?
🌿 I also saw Lee Sedol

Later in the festival,
the Go legend Lee Sedol even came on stage himself to explain things.
He seemed a bit nervous—his voice even trembled at times—
but his confidence and depth of explanation were impressive.
Seeing Lee Sedol again after a while,
he still carried that unmistakable aura of a “true pro.”
🌿 AI, and Humans
At this Seoul AI Festival,
so many scenes caught my attention.
- A huge Titan robot that moves on its own
- An electric wheelchair, but a helper robot that finds its own way
- Even mini robots dancing cutely to music…
It was a bit overwhelming because there were so many people,
but I honestly thought, “Wow, the future is here.”
🧠 In closing…
Today,
watching the AI Go robot,
I was reminded of a moment when I actually felt “humanity” all over again.
The machine was precise and smart,
but the child playing gomoku in front of it
was freer and more creative than any program.
That human sensibility,
that “one-of-a-kind rhythm” that can’t be replicated by anything,
might be what makes the world ahead even more special…
That’s what I find myself thinking. 😊
