Exercise Needs Fuel Too – Overcoming Lethargy and the Moment Your Body Comes Alive
Hi, I’m Seojun 😊
Today, I want to share something that might help those of you who exercise consistently but still find yourselves feeling strangely lethargic.
I’ve been exercising consistently for a long time.
Weight training, jiu-jitsu, bodyweight exercises, weighted vest training…
My strength increased, my body got stronger, and there was clear visible progress.
But at some point, my body felt heavy, I had no energy, and my motivation gradually started to fade.
■ No matter how much I exercised,
I kept feeling tired, uninterested, and unmotivated
It was really strange.
I wasn’t being lazy—I was keeping up with my daily routine,
meditating and doing affirmations consistently,
yet my mood kept sinking, my workouts became increasingly mechanical,
and I even started dozing off during affirmations.
At first, I thought it was a mental issue.
“Am I getting weak?”
“Is my willpower lacking?”
I blamed myself.
But today,
I realized something simple yet powerful.
■ I was basically driving a supercar with no fuel
Looking back at my recent meals,
I was limiting myself to about one bowl of rice per meal plus two snacks a day.
I was trying not to eat too much because I was watching my body fat.
But considering the intensity and volume of my workouts,
that amount of food was nowhere near enough fuel.
I was essentially driving a supercar that had completely run out of fuel.
That’s why I felt lethargic.
My brain was exhausted, dopamine was depleted, and my emotions became sensitive.
At times, surrounding sounds felt almost like faint hallucinations.
Looking back, I think it was my brain’s signal.
■ But when I started eating proper meals…
my body strangely came back to life
Today, I felt a strong realization:
“I need to refuel now.”
So I made an effort to eat properly.
I included carbohydrates, protein, and fats in balance, and ate enough.
And then…
Suddenly my body felt light, my mind felt clear,
and I actually wanted to move.
Affirmations worked better, meditation became more immersive,
and my brain felt properly “awake” for the first time in a while.
All this time, my body was alive,
just waiting for fuel.
■ If you’re experiencing exercise lethargy, check this
Exercise lethargy isn’t about lacking willpower.
I can say this with certainty from experience.
In fact, it’s more common among
people with such strong willpower that they keep pushing even when running low on fuel.
If lately your workouts feel uninteresting,
you have no energy,
your mood keeps dropping,
and you’re maintaining your routine but feeling lethargic…
I hope you’ll ask yourself, “Am I eating enough?”
■ Today’s Conclusion
Exercise needs fuel too!
Even the best car
will eventually stop if you drive it without gas.
That was me, and now I’m running again after refueling. And what’s amazing is,
refueling isn’t as hard as you think.A warm meal, a balanced meal,
just allowing yourself that
can help your body and mind gradually come back to life.
If you’re reading this
and feeling a bit lethargic right now,
try having a full, slow, warm meal today.
That one meal might be the start of changing everything for you. 😊
