Early Cold Symptoms, Small Signals Your Body Sends
This morning, I woke up with a slightly different sensation than usual.
For some reason, the feeling of a hot nose still lingers.
Every breath is incredibly uncomfortable,
and my body feels heavy,
which is quite a predicament for someone who needs to exercise.
This feeling is familiar.
Every time ‘early cold symptoms’ begin,
my body always sends quiet signals.
Small changes that approach subtly, without a sound.
I must have overdone it; it’s probably a sign to rest now.
Dopamine, Fatigue, and the Variable of Gaming
It seems the game I played recently is the cause.
I don’t usually play games,
but yesterday I enjoyed about 2 hours of a hardcore game called ‘Elden Ring’.
It’s extremely difficult, incredibly immersive, and a real dopamine rush…
When you play games, your central nervous system gets excited,
leading to nervous system fatigue.
The biggest reason seems to be that my sleep schedule became irregular,
which lowered my immunity and allowed a virus to break through.
However, since my immune system is quite healthy,
I’m not as exhausted or struggling as before.
It just ends up as mild rhinitis.
Anyway,
I should probably avoid things that cause fatigue, even games.
Perhaps I should stop playing games altogether.
Practicing Listening to Your Body’s Signals
Come to think of it,
in a busy daily life, it’s really hard when these signals come.
Because we’re always chasing tasks,
and under the absurd pressure of ‘I can’t get sick now,’
it’s difficult to fully listen to what our body is saying.
But today was different.
I decided to pause for a bit.
I slowly drank warm water and opened the window to breathe in some fresh air.
Instead of music with lyrics, I put on calm classical music,
and as I took deep breaths, I calmed my mind as well.
It’s Okay to Say You’re Hurting
not to avoid falling,
but to build the strength to get back up.
If you’re hurting, it’s okay to say so.
If you want to rest, it’s okay to rest.
Isn’t a person who knows how to comfort themselves in this way
a true adult?
Being an adult, for me,
isn’t about silently enduring difficulties,
but about the ability to take good care of oneself and recover quickly.
That seems to be my dictionary definition of ‘adult’.
It’s like dusting yourself off and getting back up after a fall.
The Most Important Attitude for Recovery
When the early symptoms of a cold appeared,
what I really needed to do was
to soothe my mind and understand myself a little better.
May today be a day
to quietly take care of myself.
And if you, who are reading this now,
are feeling any small signals,
I hope you don’t ignore them.
The Power of Quiet Affirmations
Thankful. Loving.
If I have to work,
I’ll at least quietly repeat affirmations.
“Thank you”
“I love you”
When I do this,
I feel my mind lighten and my body feel more refreshed.
