Dopamine Detox: Is it okay to listen to music? Feat. Exercise
Dopamine detox: How should I do it?
💪 The amazing link between exercise and purification!
Hi there 🙂
I’m Seojun from Shinbi Days.
Today, I want to talk about whether it’s okay to listen to music
while practicing a dopamine detox.
A day of being on edge in the extreme heat
Yesterday, the temperature was so high it felt like the peak of summer.
I stayed home all day with the windows closed, not even realizing how hot it was.
Since my body is good at regulating its temperature, I don’t usually feel the heat or cold that much.
Eventually, the heat got to me, and my brain went into overload.
On top of that, I was feeling irritable because I took some old supplements.
Gym music: What should I do?
You know how the music is always blasting at the gym?
I was worried it might interfere with my dopamine detox.
So, I tried a few experiments.
- Wearing earplugs → I could still hear the sound.
- Noise-canceling earphones + playing classical music or affirmations → The gym music still leaked in.
I eventually gave up and went to work out, feeling a bit concerned.
But surprisingly, the volume was fine, and I actually felt better after finishing my workout.
But bone conduction headphones were a bit different.
It was amazing being able to hear external sounds.
I could hear cars coming from behind while running outside,
and listening to music along with the ambient noise actually made it more exciting.
I once ran while listening to BLACKPINK’s “RUN,” and my head felt so clear.
I bought mine on an installment plan at Hyundai Department Store,
and since they’re waterproof, I didn’t have to worry about sweat or rain while exercising.
You can get them much cheaper on Coupang when they have sales 👉 [View bone conduction headphones on Coupang]
Especially since I could listen to music without blocking my ears while exercising,
it felt like it harmonized with nature and had a positive effect on my dopamine detox.
Should you absolutely avoid music during a dopamine detox?
In fact, music can trigger dopamine because it is a form of “stimulation.”
Especially messages that are sexual or violent, or addictive melodies, can affect your subconscious.
🎧 “But if I’m moving, the music won’t hurt me.”
Music heard while exercising is just background noise passing through an active activity.
It was on a completely different level than just sitting at home and listening.
Especially while exercising, bone conduction headphones, which let you listen to music without blocking your ears, were helpful.
When I actually used them while running, I felt much freer because I could enjoy the music while still hearing external sounds.
Rather than being absorbed only in the music, it felt like it harmonized with nature and had a positive effect on my dopamine detox.
Exercise is purification

but exercise is a must 🙂
Our brains are naturally designed for movement.
Since prehistoric times, humans have walked on two feet to find food and explore.
Exercise is an activity that boosts intelligence and awakens almost every function of the brain.
Exercise goes beyond just building your body;
it’s an inner vacuum cleaner that purifies emotional residue, subconscious afterimages, and even a tense nervous system.
After finishing my workout today, I felt my suppressed emotions melting away.
“Ah, I was just irritable because energy was trapped in my brain.”
Exercise was the real dopamine detox.
Movement was the essence of my recovery.
▼ Emotional healing games you play while moving (Summary)
✅ To summarize, I can say this.
- It’s best to avoid stimulating music heard passively at home.
- Music heard during active activities like walking, exercising, cleaning, or strolling is fine.
- What’s more important than the music is whether you are moving right now.
🌿 Closing Affirmations
“I purify myself through movement.”
“I can maintain stillness even while being active.”
“As long as I walk, my brain is recovering.”
