Deep in the forest, there lived a small child.
The child loved the mountains so much.
The sound of wind passing through the leaves,
the soft scent of earth,
and even the distant songs of birds.
But lately,
the child’s footsteps had stopped.
“There are lots of snakes in the mountains. You need to be careful.”
Because of what the adults said,
the mountains they loved so much began to feel like a scary place.
That day too, the child sat at the foot of the mountain,
gazing at the distant forest,
then carefully took one step, then another.
That’s when it happened.
A snake with small, sparkling eyes
quietly poked its head out from the grass and said,
“Hi. You used to come here often, didn’t you?
The forest, the trees—everything has been waiting for you.”
The child stopped in surprise,
but the snake wasn’t scary.
Its eyes… looked like a friend who had been waiting for someone for a very long time.
